Western Expansion-Industrial Revolution
and Inventions
The expansion of the United States towards
the West was very noticeable. It was noticeable in the way that The United States was growing with more and more land. But
land was not the only way in which United States was growing, the industrial revolution and new inventions help it grow even
more. As Americans pushed their way to the Pacific Coast the also brought their current technology with them but on the way
there they invented new tools as well.
The expansion of The United States towards the west gave birth to the Great Industrial Revolution in the US. The industrial
revolution, which had begun in England, took force in the United States in the late 18th century and the early
19th century. The main product during the time was the textiles industry. The textiles industries expanded to the
west following the rest of the flow. Some of the main textiles factories were located in Chicago, Illinois. These factories
would produce clothes to cloth the fast population of immigrants moving even more towards the west.
In order to transport
the fabrics fabricated in the factories and be sold there had to be new methods of transportation too. The new methods that
helped transport goods and keep expanding to the west were railroads, roads, and steamboats. Railroads were the fastest growing
method of transportation because it was cheaper and faster too. Rails were connected from New York to Texas and many more
rails branched out from this rail. The railroad was a good way to transport a large variety of goods even cattle.
Roads were also being
constructed because as Americans kept pushing their way west they needed to have roads in order to travel in land. The main
roads were paved but the rest were just cover with gravel or plain dirt.
Steams boats helped
led the way west just like the railroads but through the water. The steam engine was a major invention, which went through
many stages but at the end it was a success. The steamboats or steam ships were used mainly in rivers to transport goods to
different places.
The expansion of the
US was possible thanks to various tools such railroads, roads, steamboats, and textiles. But not only were these artifacts
tools they were also inventions that people invented on the way to the west or they modified it to make them better. Every
one of these tools helped the US expansion to the west an easier.
